Steps for the Dissertation Proposal
(Revised June 2015)
1. The dissertation proposal review process may start once the advisor sends the Head the names and institutions of 3-4 potential reviewers. The Head will either approve of the reviewers or suggest others. The use of at least one reviewer from outside the University is encouraged.
2. Students submit to Deb an original of the committee-signed Dissertation Proposal Cover Page and email the dissertation proposal file (PDF and/or DOC) to Deb.
3. Advisor finds two reviewers by contacting approved potential reviewers asking them to review within 3 weeks.
4. Advisor sends an email with proposal and review form to reviewers; Cc to Deb so she can follow up with reviewers as necessary.
5. Reviewers send reviews to Deb.
6. Deb blinds the review (if requested by the reviewer) and sends it to the student for a 1- or 2-paragraph response (or a response format determined by the student’s advisor).
7. Student emails responses to Deb as well as a revised dissertation proposal if changes are made.
8. If reviews and responses are satisfactory, the Head signs the Dissertation Proposal Cover Sheet.
9. Deb mails everything to the Graduate School for final approval.
